Professor and Dr. Alexandre “Cafe” Dantas, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu black belt commonly known by his nickname “Café”, is a Brazilian jiu jitsu black belt who competed for the Gracie Barra academy, being also one of the sport’s greatest stars during the 2000’s decade, where he accumulated victories over some top competitors such as Fabricio Werdum, Marcelo Garcia, Fernando “Terere” or Demian Maia to name a few. Café also had a short spell as a mixed martial arts fighter, competing in the UFC and a world champion as a black belt, the most prestigious title a BJJ fighter can achieve. Besides, if was not enough, Professor Cafe has PHD in Law!


Ricardo Pires

Ricardo Pires is a 4th degree Black Belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and has dedicated more than half of his life to Jiu-Jitsu. He has a vast experience in teaching Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and MMA. Professor Ricardo started his career with Professor Marcos Soares back in 1978, at the world famous Grand Master Carlson Gracie academy. Professor Ricardo was awarded his black belt from Sergio Penha, who trains under Grand Master Osvaldo Alves, who is one of the few red belts and one of the most respected instructor in Brazil. Professor Ricardo became part of the Gracie Barra family when he was invited to train with Professor Jefferson Moura at the prestigious Gracie Barra Headquarters in Rio de Janeiro back in 2007.

Professor Ricardo is the founder of the famous Las Vegas Combat Club and was the first Brazilian black belt in Las Vegas in 1998, when there was only one BJJ school. Today, there are over 30 black belts in the fight capital of the world. Professor Ricardo has coached several fighters in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) and Pride Championship, such as Heath Herring, Phil Baroni, and Frank Mir. After Frank Mir defeated Tim Sylvia in 2004 for the UFC Heavyweight Championship, Professor Ricardo awarded Frank Mir his highly deserved black belt.

Professor Ricardo’s career as a coach in the UFC is astonishing, having participated in more than 36 corner’s in his profile, including the dispute, and winning, for the most important title in the Mixed Martial Arts World; the UFC Heavyweight Championship.

Professor Ricardo is also an accomplished BJJ competitor himself. He is a multiple-time Pan American Champion, Brazilian National Champion, Rio de Janeiro State Champion and Abu Dhabi Combat Club (ADCC) trials runner-up.

Professor Ricardo now resides in Florida, where he runs the Gracie Barra Fort Lauderdale academy, and is repeating the trails that were once done in Las Vegas and Cleveland, but now in the beatiful city of Fort Lauderdale.

Victor Pires is a Black Belt under Professor Ricardo Pires and has been training under the tutelage of his father (Professor Ricardo) since the age of 12. He started his journey into Martial Arts at the early age of 6, in Rio de Janeiro, with Judo. According to Professor Ricardo, “Victor is one of the most talented instructors I have ever met. He has more talent than I had when I was his age”.

Instructor Victor moved from Brazil to the United States when he was 12 years old, after falling in love with the American lifestyle, and became a US citizen by choice. Instructor Victor ran Ricardo Pires BJJ academy in Cleveland, OH and from his father’s words, he was responsible for the success of that school.

Instructor Victor has been competing in tournaments in Brazil and USA. Some of his accomplishments include 2nd place at the IBJJF Pan-Ams, 3rd place IBJJF Miami Open, ADCC trials runner-up and multiple times Grapplers Quest champion. Victor also wrestled in High School for 3 years.
